Whenever I meet rockers or celebrities, the subject of their dogs always comes up. (Usually it's me asking, quite frankly I don't trust anyone who doesn't like dogs...) I recently interviewed Nils Lofgren of the E Street Band and we spent time AFTER the interview discussing his love for his 6 canines. Slash told me he works hard to support many animal charities as I discussed Rock N' Ruff with him, Brent from Shinedown told me he misses his Bulldog Bella when he's on the road and Chris from Black Stone Cherry wants to add a Pit Bull to his family!
So....where does Rex Ryan fit in?? Last year, I hosted The Home For Good Dog Rescue "Bark A Que" at the Village Green in Summit and had a great time. I was quite surprised when out of nowhere they asked me to bring Jets Head Coach Rex Ryan up on stage with his dog....JET to greet the crowd. Rex was fantastic. Friendly, took pictures etc. You see, Jet was adopted by Rex and his wife from Home For Good. He is a great supporter of the group and of dog adoption.
Fast forward to 2 weeks ago. I'm hosting the Bark A Que again. And who shows up (even with a tornado warning in effect) to give ANOTHER homeless Home For Good pooch a forever home ........REX! Yes......adopting a second dog so Jet can have a companion. Coach Rex could have filled out an application online and had his dog delivered to him, but he didn't. He came out, supported a great rescue group and even had his new pup microchipped onsite and took pictures and chatted with people. Listen, love the team you love....I get it..I'm not trying to convert you to "Jetsism"..but I had to give props to a guy who supports homeless animals, our local groups, and flies under the radar doing it (and jeeze....what a lucky dog!)
Home For Good quoted Rex as saying "There is nothing better than saving the life of a rescue dog".......I agree!
Here's a picture of Rex, Mrs. Rex and sweet Dixie. A great story for this dog for sure.
