I adore the NJSPCA. Capt. Rick Yocum and the entire team work day and night for our animals EVERY day of the year. What would we have done without them during hurricane Sandy?!
The NJSPCA has rescued over 800 animals post storm from all over New Jersey. Animals are in need of help during natural disasters for so many reasons. Some people are forced to evacuate and leave them behind. Some escape as storms scare them, some just get separated from their owners. The barrier island of our Jersey Shore was especially hit by this storm and Col. Frank Rizzo and Detective Donato and Sgt. Frahler put in so much time to hit up every neighborhood and every house for pets left behind. They have been just incredible. The NJSPCA also worked with local animal control teams and were also assisted by Associated Humane, HSUS and The North Shore animal League. Just amazing!
So...you ask....were any animals reunited with owners? Capt. Rick tells me by Friday, November 9th about 80% of the animals rescued were reunited with their humans. Amazing! So what can you do to help? Visit www.njspca.org (the link is right on the Rock N' Ruff page) and click on the Hurricane Sandy link. AND we will be partnering with our local shelters AND The NJSPCA for a massive supply drive at Dover Dodge, Chrysler Jeep Ram on Rt. 46 in Rockaway beginning on December 1st and inviting you to all to stop by and donate if you can. Please come out on 12/15 and shake Capt. Yocum's hand as he will bring the NJSPCA to Dover Dodge for our special DHA/Dover Dodge Holiday Extravaganza celebration.
Thanks be to the NJSPCA. Every day, every night, storms or sun.....helping our animals.
