I have always stated how upset breed specific legislation makes me. Reading the story of former Miami Marlins Pitcher, Mark Buehrle and his Pit Slater really got to me. When Mark signed a contract with the Marlins last year, he was forced to live in another county because Miami Dade County has a ban on Pit Bulls. He happily did so, however after being traded to Toronto this past November, his family was forced to make some harsh decisions. Pit Bulls are outlawed through the province of Ontario, so rather than give up their dog, Mark and his wife Jamie decided to live apart. Jamie, their 3 and 5 year old children, Slater and their 3 other dogs (Vizslas) staying in St. Louis and Mark over 800 miles away in Canada. Mark isn't looking for sympathy, just understanding on what kind of dog he has. Slater the Pit Bull is completing his therapy dog training and will eventually visit terminally ill patients, help children with reading skills and social skills and brighten the spirits of people who need to smile. Here is a link to Slater's therapy training video. As you can see he is an incredible dog! He adores everyone and is such a gentle mush!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhfI_qQ3NZo
DHA's Rock N' Ruff has taught me so much about dogs. and I have been so fortunate to have met the most incredible Bully's in the process. Bully's are loyal, smart and loving. They adore their humans
Check out Slater's pictures, with his family and dog brothers. What a lucky dog to have such amazing and dedicated humans. And thank you Mark and Jamie. Your story is an inspiration and you will in some way make a difference. Your dog is wonderful and will bring happiness to so many. If you've ever been discriminated or mistreated because of your dog, email me at rocknruff@wdhafm.com. I'd love to hear your story. Ban the deed (of poor ownership) not the breed. Thank you Slater. ..hopefully one day we won't have to read these stories.
