I always try and keep the Rock N Ruff blogs positive. There are so many GOOD stories and people out there that are making things happen for our furry friends. These are the stories I love to tell. Sometimes, however, attention needs to be drawn to reality. I first heard the story about Samurai, a Cocker Spaniel that was abused, stuffed in a bag and left on the side of the road on 3/15. It was one of the most disturbing things I have ever heard. Then when I found out the people who initially reported the incident, were the arrested suspects, and actual owners of the dog, I got angry. The motivation for abusing an animal goes beyond anything I could ever comprehend. Ever. So I am not even going there. The photos we have seen of this sweet baby say it all. They remind me of Patrick the Pitbull and the disturbing image we saw of his skeletal body stuffed down a garbage shoot. I contacted my friend Capt. Rick Yocum from the NJ SPCA for an update on Sammy's condition. Click below and hear exactly what Capt told me. He is THE BEST! A huge thanks to the Red Bank Veterinary Hospital who are donating all of Samurai's care for free and are taking such amazing care of this dog who is now listed in guarded condition. My first instinct was ..."OMG...I'll take him"! There have been many, many families reaching out if Samurai makes it, who want to adopt him. Let's hope he survives and gets the chance to see how many people love him and that he is able to become a cherished family member. Just looking into his sad eyes can melt you into a puddle. Social Media now allows us to see the injustice up close in ways we haven't seen in the past. If you are pulling for this dog, (as we all are) do something kind for a homeless animal. Bring food to your local shelter, or toys or paper towels, walk a shelter dog, donate a few bucks if you can and of course consider fostering or adopting. This would be a lasting tribute to Samurai that will pay it forward for many homeless shelter animals. These stories break my heart and I know yours too, but we can make a difference. Thanks to all who are helping this dog (and abused, homeless animals everywhere) recover and find better lives. Thanks to Capt. for checking in...
