While most olympic athletes are looking to go home with metals, American Freeskier Gus Kenworthy found something more valuable to want to take back to the US...A mother dog and her litter of four pups living outside near Russia's Gorki Media Center. If you are an animal lover you may have read about the horrible treatment that dogs in Sochi have been receiving. Sickening. Russia ordered the senseless killing of stray and homeless dogs to get them "out of the way for tourists"during the olympic games. ....Gus stepped in....This silver metalist found this litter of puppies and their mama and is doing what he can to get them to the US. He has arranged for kennels, vaccinations and has found homes for all four pups (and their mom) with additional famly members. He is trying to get the dog family to the US when he returns to Colorado.
When I saw this story I was really hurt by people who posted negative comments about this wonderful guy that read..."Why take dogs from Russia, when there are dogs here that need homes"? What an awful thing to say....Why??! Because these dogs touched Gus. He fell in love with them. And they needed someone to try to give them a chance. Animal lovers should be united and not divided. Don't we want to help ALL animals that need us? Getting this story our may inspire others to adopt here, in the south, anywhere...Isn't that what it's all about?! Go Gus! A beautiful story.....I will be following this one.....Silver metal ....Gold heart!
