This month is National Adopt a Greyhound month! I wanted to acknowledge these majestic, social creatures and let our Rock N' Ruffers know how many need loving homes. When Greyhounds retire from racing they usually adjust quite nicely into life off the track and into a loving homes. Some of the misconceptions about these retired athletes are that they are not social, or are hyper or aren't healthy. All of these couldn't be further from the truth. Greyhounds are very social and loyal to their humans, generally live to about 12 years old and are often referred to as 40 mph couch potatoes! While some like to be active, the majority actually really enjoy their retirement basking in the sun!
If you are interested in giving one of these beautiful dogs a home, visit www.adoptagreyhound.org for information about the breed and adoption and closer to home www.greyhoundfriendsofnj.org has a great website dedicated to bringing these dogs to the Garden State and finding them loving homes. We love our Greyhounds! In fact in 2012 and 2013 Greyhounds were featured in the WDHA Ultimate Rock Dogs Calendar. 2012 we met the late Gino and in 2013 we met Cindy. Both retired racers carrying the flag for the breed!
Hail to the Greyhound!
Here is a picture of our lovely calendar girl Cindy Frantic...(whose humans Al and Mary carry the torch for homeless dogs and recently added Belle the Greyhound to their pack!)
