If anyone told me I'd foster a kitten I would have thought they were crazy. Simply because I never thought I'd be able to part with any animal...But I could and I did! Fostering is so important for our shelters, because knowing that animals have a home to go to while they are pending adoption frees up space for our shelters to be able to pull poor defenseless animals from high kill shelters. Such was the case with Peach my foster kitten. I heard The Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter needed kitten fosters to save lives and I thought, "Me and Scarlet can do this"....I picked up Peach at the shelter as a 5 week old kitten who hadn't been around many people and boy did she bond with the dog! She followed Scarlet everywhere! And screamed for her, when she wasn't around. Scarlet was a patient, gentle foster sister (very out of character for my crazy Yorkie!) and kissed Peach quite a bit. Peach loved it. Over time, she developed a huge appetite, became a playful kitten and made herself right at home! I think she believed she's a dog! Everyone kept saying, "You must keep her"...but that is not what fostering is about... Knowing I was a part of helping her become a great cat was an amazing feeling. And the Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter were fanatstic to work with. They provided me with everything necessary (I didn't know anything about cats) and Alex who coordiantes the foster program was there for me ANYTIME I needed her. Anyone looking for a dog loving cat, should meet Peach! She is now available for adoption at the Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter on rt. 10 in East Hanover. The two weeks I had her were alot of work, but incredibly rewarding. If you are ever considering fostering, I highly recommend it. It is one of the most giving thing an animal lover can do!
If you are interested in adopting Peach visit www.njshelter.org or stop by Mt. Pleasant on rt. 10 West in East Hanover behind Petsmart. They are open 7 days a week. You can call them as well at 973 -386-0590.
I will miss her...but her journey has just begun!
