I sat down to watch this documentary piece on one of my favorite bands the Eagles not knowing exactly what to expect. Music? One sided tales from Henley and Frey? Selective snippets? I truly didn't expect what I got out of the tube that night. I was mesmerized with Pt. 1 for 2 hours..truly, I didn't move except to tweet at Monaghan "Are you watching this"?? I couldn't wait for Part 2 the next night. Lots of footage with Randy, Bernie, and JD and of course the emergence of Joe "how ya doin?" Walsh and his behind the scenes footage is priceless. The vintage performances are phenomenal, and the pull for control from not only the band but their record company, David Geffen, and Producer Glyn Johns is what great rock and roll success stories are made of. The over indulgences, the stories behind the songs and the inner conflicts!! Holy ---t! No love lost between Henley and Geffen, or Frey and Felder...oh wait and then there's Frey and Meisner...oh wait...(well you get it, I could go on and on). Bottom line is this documentary is a timeprint of an exceptional band. There is also an in depth look at the solo careers of Don and Glen and their relevence as superstar solo artists in the 80's and 90's.
The Eagles- Monster talents, incredible songwriters and a true snapshot of great American Music. And those songs...those beautiful, wonderful, incredible songs. Brilliant. . The History of the Eagles- parts 1 and 2- running all month on Showtime. You must check it out. I promise you will be blown to bits.
Here I am with Don Felder, when he told me his story at DHA and our Box of Rock video link. He actually sent me an email to tell me how much he enjoyed his time at the station and our chat. I framed it...no kidding...A historic day in my career for sure....
See you tomorrow at 10!
