Going Dark at WDHA with Lindsay Klein
Posted
1/25/2012 8:04:00 PM
Going Dark is a three piece band with the youngest musicians the blog has ever seen! When I was first informed they were coming in I thought in the back of my mind "please dont be young poppy the same as everyone else music"...and boy was I in luck! These guys are absolutely not like any other younger band out there, they stand alone with their talent and sound!
Lacey and I were really impressed by these guys and they were so so sweet which always helps!!!! They are having a CD release party this Friday January 27th at Chill in Montclair with our very own Terrie Carr to host the sold out show!
I asked them about advice for bands just starting off because even though they are young, they have climbed a big ladder in only a year, and they said to always practice and stay ...

I started the WDHA Homegrown Spotlight bog about summer timeish 2010, and wow has it grown into its own entity!!! The Homegrown Spotlight segment on the radio waves has existed for many many years, but I decided to take it to a new level! I have a large acting background and wanted to use that knowledge and interviewing skills to work with my bands, and help the underground local original artists in our area:)
The Homegrown Spotlight segment on WDHA is on Monday - Thursday about 11:30pm. I play a local original artist and one song promoting anything they have going on as well. Its been a fabulous journey for me being a part of their lives, as well as they being a part of my career, so it was only natural for me to want to expand this concept.
The Blog is something on our WDHA website, ...
Another gem from Fifteen Fleeting

When I look back on the year with the WDHA Homegrown Spotlight, a few bands really stick out in my head. Truth be told, if you are invited onto the blog, I already adore you....but if you do something "unique" I may love you even more:)
Fifteen Fleeting to me put out one of the best albums I've ever heard on the blog. The kind of CD you think youre going to check out on your ride home from work, that happens to stay in the CD player for months.....They performed for my blog and did an amazing job so I decided to post another track and repost their interview!
Elemae in the WDHA Studios with Lindsay Klein

Apparently Elemae has been around for quite some time now, but after a long hiatus, Craig and Chris have lately been tearing up the music scene....and I mean TEARING IT UP! They toured in the UK!!!! I couldn't be more proud to know these talented gents and to be a huge fan of their music.
I met Craig many years ago being the frontman behind the band "Damn This Desert Air" which is also one of my favorite local bands. He just recently introduced me to this other project Elemae and I am another lifer....something about those loud vocals and fabulous guitar riffs that just get into your soul. I've always told Craig his voice reminds me of Sensefield's vocalist Jonathan Bunch, melodic but powerful.
They have recently revisited their older music with newer energy and below is an example of an acoustic sound for this band. Please ...
Jay from Della Valle at WDHA with Lindsay Klein

I've known a few members of the band Della Valle for awhile now and have been itching to get these guys in my homegrown spotlight blog! Finally, Jay came in and boy did he "bring it"! Jay has absolutely stood out for my coworker Lacey and I as far as this blog is concerned. He performed by himself for only two of us, but it felt like he was on stage for a hundred people! Jay is extremely talented, entertaining, down to earth, and just an absolute MUST SEE.
I've been a fan of the band's music for a long time, but I do have to say... the power of the magical acoustic setting and watching Jay perform as a solosist was a piece of magic. He had Lacey and I singing along with him and laughing in hysterics at his lyrics and stage performance:)
Della Valle has ...

It all started with a slice of pizza and an ad on craigslist.......the end.....I kid! This band is not only talented but extremely outgoing!! We had so much fun during the interview talking about their love for craigslist and being italian!!! They sent me their CD pretty recently after listening for very shortly, I was drawn in. I contacted them and said COME IN NOW! That's exactly what they did! They came out and supported me at a side DJ'ing gig and then came in for the homegrown spotlight blog! Their sound has been inspired by modern NY City post punk and is very catchy! Make sure you check out their debut album "Some things we'll never know" as well as find out where they'll be next on facebook, myspace, etc etc.....
Mercury Morning at WDHA with Lindsay Klein

Mercury Morning has one of the most beautiful band names I've ever heard, and their music tells why! The've had a few line up changes but it seems the band is on a steady road upwards now with an EP out this month entitled "The Aftermath"...Check out more on these guys at mercurymorning.com with their music online as well!
Also they'll be playing November 16th at Maxwells with a Benefit Concert!
Charetta in the WDHA Studios with Lindsay Klein

10/24/2011 12:15:00 PM
Charetta is a band I recently found out about, and was instantly impressed and wanted to hear/know more. Their manager sent me a CD and it was so refreshing. It stuck out hardcore to me in a VERY good way. I loved lead singer Angelina's voice. They say they are "Alanis Morisette punching Chevelle in the face".....I'm also a huge fan of Chevelle and can see the truth in the metaphor.
They were such a treat to have in my blog. My assistant Lacey and I were very moved by the song they performed and we both really really hope they come back and perform again!
To see and hear more about one of my new favorite bands Charetta please head to www.charetta.com as well as facebook. They have a bunch of dates on their website with one being this weekend at the The Point in the ...
Hoodless in the WDHA Studios with Lindsay Klein

For awhile the band Hoodless was creating a certain buzz in my ears from different avenues of people....I heard tons of compliments and decided I needed to check them out for myself...Ironically their promoter contacted me about a local show just about the same time the news was starting to spread on this must see band...
So that's exactly what I did, I checked out a live show and was extrememly impressed by these guys!!! This band is talented, but also very down to earth describing themselves as "music for jerks, by jerks" they just tell it like it is! They are guitar driven, heavy hitting, with Twon's whailing lyrics of a musical rock n roll band!
They've played some serious shows with great acts including the Starland ballroom. Make sure you keep up to date with these guys at hoodlessrocks.com as well as myspace.com/hoodless and facebook! I'm ...
The Happy Problem at WDHA with Lindsay Klein
Posted
10/10/2011 8:09:00 PM
The Happy Problem and I had a blast filming the Spotlight blog!!! Vibrant and highly energized lead singer Sam Shaber and I not only share a hair color...ok I'm not as cool and my red is gone.......but also a bday! We clicked from the moment this colorful personality stepped into the WDHA hallways! I loved her as a person, what she has done to get where she is today, and of course her talent as a musician!
The Happy Problem can be described as indiepunk for a new generation. Sam belts out meaningful and zany lyrics while pounding at the guitar for an awesome live show! Tony and Joe add the rainbow sprinkles on this band's niche:)
You can find their latest album Head Case on Itunes, as well as thehappyproblem.com and good old facebook! Also be sure to check out the music video for "Matador" on youtube ...

I met the fellas in Rahway years ago and they've been amazing supporters of my radio show ever since. Karma is a beautiful thing, and I am now a fan and supporter of this band! They are a really fun live show with the ever so sexy lead singer Steve Visconti working the crowd!
Two of the members are brothers, David and Steve which adds a very unique and playful vibe to the band as a whole! Last but not least, Mr. Bobby on bass also a pleasure and fantastic soul!
These guys and I had a blast filming for the WDHA blog! They are very outgoing, personable, entertaining, and awesome musicians. Please give a listen to the interview and acoustic performance below! They are a local band with dates around and you can find out when they're playing by you...head to www.rahwayband.com as well as facebook, myspace, youtube, etc ...

Bill is my birthday twin and my first male soloist in the WDHA Homegrown Spotlight Blog, so that made it extra special!!!
He's been playing for a very long time, but as the title of his new album is "Too Long Coming"....its been a bit since he released new material... This one is fantastic, and ready to be listened to and/or purchased!!! You can find it on Itunes or right at billgriese.com.
He's been compared to James Taylor, and I have to highly agree with this. Bill has a very soothing voice, and is a fantastic acoustic guitarist. It was a pleasure talking, getting to know Bill , and seeing him perform in my blog!!!
Bill performs alot in the Morristown area so please check out his live performances! You'll fall in love with his smooth vocals, and beautiful lyrics! His next gig is at the Dublin ...

Persistent, dedicated, motivated, talented, outgoing, warm, nice nice nice are just a few terms to explain the band Our Black Friday. I've become not only a "dj" to these gents, but a friend. I know what its like to fight hard for something you love and dream about, and this band continues to fight everyday to get their music heard.
What's very different about this band, is that they aren't just promoting themselves and gigging to be heard. They want to touch your lives, raise money for various wonderful causes, etc. They have spent their own money to bring on WDHA and myself to different charity events and thru music we all come together ....
I love Scott and the guys in the band Our Black Friday.....and I'm not just saying it because I think I get reeses peanut butter cups everytime I see them:)...They are fantastic at ...

I've known a few of the members is the band Long Gone Day, for many years in the NJ music scene. I 've worked with them, and just socialized with them....but having them come into my blog and perform/interview was a road new to travel. It was really neat to see these people I've known and even seen live and plugged in, stripped down and acoustic. Its always such a magical, musical, experience....loved it...

Of Fate and Chance are a very talented and adored band. Still very young these guys have the potential to go very far. Trevor and Sean represented the band inside the spotlight for the acoustic set and man were they sooooo tight!!!! We were all really really impressed!!!
I've worked with these guys a few years ago hosting an original show with another one of my bands, Nine Circles.....and I can tell you live and plugged in or acoustic, they are amazing!!!

This band is phenomenal!!! They came in and performed for my blog and I didn't want them to stop! Wow, very impressed with these guys....
Bergen County gents, these guys have a unique sound.....Their lyrics may remind you of Death Cab for Cutie, while the instrumentation is alternative rockish...They have a bunch of amazing music out there for you to take a listen to from their debut full length, "Ladders" to their newest EP, "The Crowded Room".
Please give the interview and performance your attention below as well as keep up to date on facebook and www.escapedirectors.com. This band RULES!
Blue Panel in the WDHA Homegrown Spotlight
Posted

Blue Panel is a group right out of our backyard, Madison NJ:)....
Consisting of four friends I'd say the sound is a bit blues-ish, with alternative and jam elements as well....Very well rounded fresh and crisp, we had a blast with a few of the members who came into the WDHA studios to perform for the WDHA Homegrown Spotlight Blog!
They've circuited the local venues including Crossroads, Starland Ballroom , Webster Hall, The Stone Pony, etc, but their visit for my blog was the first time I got to see them live. We all fell in love with their unique sound!!! I think they add a new flavor to the blog and I hope to see them again on a big big stage plugged in and rocking!
Please check out the interview and performance below to find out where they got their band's name, what they're up ...

Love Love Love this band!!!!!!! Rusted Hero came into WDHA with their A game on.....They had done the research which meant a TON to me....so much, they even performed my spotlight's theme song acoustically!!!! Many times bands come in and have no idea what my blog is about......Many times bands come in ready to go and prepared to shine...Rusted Hero blew us away...
They've only been playing for about a year, but you'd never know by listening to their music. They are very very talented and of course NICE!!! I cannot express enough how much my staff and I appreciate "good peeps!"...

King Kelly in the WDHA Studios with Lindsay Klein

I've been a fan of the members of King Kelly as they've grown and been a part of different musical projects for years......They have a hard rockin sound with amazing melodies...Lead Vocalist Steve will draw you in with his tone and keep you there....Well , that's what happens for me!
King Kelly brought in their cactus, grapes and mustaches for my Homegrown Spotlight Blog and were all personality! Their music though, is quite serious...seriously amazing, impressive, unique....
To see King Kelly live head over to their facebook page and give them a big old "like"...facebook.com/kingkellymusic....Their next show is August 6 at Dingbatz..Great venue, Fantastic band...go!!!!
