I started the WDHA Homegrown Spotlight bog about summer timeish 2010, and wow has it grown into its own entity!!! The Homegrown Spotlight segment on the radio waves has existed for many many years, but I decided to take it to a new level! I have a large acting background and wanted to use that knowledge and interviewing skills to work with my bands, and help the underground local original artists in our area:)
The Homegrown Spotlight segment on WDHA is on Monday - Thursday about 11:30pm. I play a local original artist and one song promoting anything they have going on as well. Its been a fabulous journey for me being a part of their lives, as well as they being a part of my career, so it was only natural for me to want to expand this concept.
The Blog is something on our WDHA website, right here, where I bring local bands in and film them perform a few songs acoustically, then we have a fun interview as well after the performances. It's raw and magical and I love to hear them strip down their music into an intimate setting! I try to bring in a variety of music including soloists, big bands, soft bands, hard rock, classic rock, indie etc etc.....I think its safe to say that my assistant Lacey and I have "seen it all"..but lets be serious, if a band is invited into WDHA, that alone is a choice I make and a compliment to the band because I'd like them to represent my blog, WDHA, and the local original scene as a band I think people should look into.
Now for the thank you's;)..Thank you to first and foremost WDHA!!! They have believed in me and without them and my mangers, and coworkers, this wouldnt exist!!! Props to the higher ups at WDHA and Greater Media who also believe in promoting and being involved in our local original artist scene........Next, the bands! You take the time out of your day, even call out of work to be a part of this project and without your dedication to your music and WDHA, there'd be no blog;)..Finally, my right hand lady, the brain behind the curtain who is one of the most talented and amazing women I know...Ms. Lacey Brock. I met Lacey a few years ago and handed her resume to the Promotions manager who then met with Lacey for an internship at WDHA. She did the rest!!! She went from being an intern at WDHA, to a part time "paid" promotions assistant, to now our key to anything video on WDHA. She films and edits EVERYTHING..from TC's Box of Rock, Rock n Ruff to my Homegrown Spotlight. She is my "it" girl and I love her. Thank you Lacey for making the blog what it is today. You are the creative force behind this and I couldnt do it without you.....You are talented and brilliant and will be going very far in your future, and I can't wait to watch the ride by your side;)
Ok now for the fun stuff.....Like any great movie, show, etc....we have our own bloopers here for the Spotlight blog we decided to let you in on behind the camera:) Enjoy and stay tuned as the blog continues and grows into 2012! Much love to you all for all of your support...Rock on!
