It's funny, asking a band how they came up with the name of their band is a "normal" question I find myself doing in interviews. As I sit here to type out this blog, the word fate is hitting my heart a little harder then normal. I usually find myself to be a "glass half full" person so I'm going to try my best to look at "fate" and how it struck me, and will continually strike me my whole life....after meeting everyone in the band "Fate Strikes Twice".
"Fate" can be defined as
"The development of events outside a person's control, regarded as determined by a supernatural power." Seems about right, I think I was meant to meet this band, and Harry was meant to touch my life now, and always, because he most likely is, and was, a supernatural power.
I had the pleasure of hosting a show at The Gramercy with Gotham Rocks and a few bands a couple of months ago. It was on this very night that I finally met everyone in "Fate Strikes Twice". It seemed so amazing to me how small the circles of musicians can get, and how tons of bands I play on WDHA were there to support eachother, and especially Fate Strikes Twice!! I had heard about them for awhile now, but this was my first time seeing them live and loud at a fantastic venue, with supportive and talented musicians on the line up.
When Harry came out a HUGE smile smacked me in the face, and I was so drawn into the performance. Harry had a way of taking that stage and making it his own. The entire band is tight and talented dont get me wrong, but a good front man will make or break a performance sometimes. Harry was an AMAZING front man. He had fire, passion, energy, and kept you engaged the whole time.
After the band performed that night we all exchanged numbers, and book of face addresses, emails and whatever else people do in 2012 to connect. I remember being so mad my personal facebook page couldnt add any more "friends" and I gave him distinct rules on how to subscribe to me so we were "fake" real friends! His wife was also at the concert and we all took a ton of pictures together, and laughed, and talked, and were instantly friends.
Some people walk into your life and you can feel like you've known them forever in a very short amount of linear time. Harry Dullys and his band Rick Swanwick, Pete Markson, Mike Flores, and Tommy Tsunami, were just that to me. Instant friends for life, time has not been relevant to our real bond. When you click with someone sometimes there's no logical explanation, its just fate....
The entire band "Fate Strikes Twice" showed up nice and early to perform for my blog and were so excited to be here it warmed my heart! When people want to be on my show, I want them to be on as well! I remember the day so vividly....We all joked and laughed and took funny pictures...Harry showed up late in his neon sneakers then made us all laugh as he always did. I believe the picture taking continued when I left them alone as well;)
Harry and I chatted after the performance and I know he was beyond excited to be on my show, and it was just as much an honor to have him and the whole band here. We were meant to be friends, he was meant to touch my life, and he will always be a part of my life in music and just living. Harry Dullys to me was like JFK was to presidents but to the rock world, a strong powerful soul that when he walked into a room, everyone was well aware of his presence. Talented and pure to the core, he could light up an entire city....May his memory live on forever in our hearts and thru music.
This blog entry is dedicated to my forever friend Harry Dullys. In loving memory you will always be in my heart and your music will play on forever as I will do what I can to keep you alive. In a short amount of time our friendship will mean the world to me my whole existence. You were a rare breed, a star, special in every aspect of the simple term..... Much love to everyone Harry touched in the music industry, his friends, family, fans, best friends who I have the pleasure of now knowing (Kevin:) and beautiful wife ......all of my love to you..
