I've been full time doing the night space on WDHA (Monday-Friday 7pm-midnight) for about seven years now, but the homegrown spotlight segment on the airwaves has been around well beyond that. I am honored and priviliged to be a part of the local original music scene and about two and a half years ago, came up with the idea for this blog.
I play one track from a local original artist every night Monday - Thursday about 11:30 pm and highlight a band on the airwaves. It's an awesome specialty segment to my show, and I love receiving new CD's in the mail, emails, etc..but I wanted it to grow. With my extensive background in acting I decided to take it to the camera!! The WDHA Homegrown Spotlight blog features a blog entry on our radio website in which I do a little write up on the band, then I include an acoustic performance and an interview. I recieve submissions daily and try to get as many bands as possible, always expanding for this segment at www.wdhafm.com/blog/homegrown/blogentry.aspx.
Bands come in with a few acoustic songs prepared, and we film them along with an interview with me! Its a lot of fun for me because personally I find acoustic music so raw and magical. To get up and close with these bands in a tiny room is such an intimate experience..... I try to introduce the WDHA audience to the local scene, and in turn the bands support WDHA:) It goes full circle, humans helping humans and thats what it's all about!
2012 was probably the biggest year for me so far on the local music scene. I've met amazing talent this year, who have also become my friends in the "real world". I feel blessed in my heart and my ears.
Every year we've made the WDHA Homegrown Spotlight Blog, we've also added a blooper reel at the end of the year since my "real life" personality can be quite charasmatic to put it nicely. Class clown and class wit titles back in the day are still true to form lets just say. But it doesn't stop at me!! With any good filming the bands have their fair share of "mistakes".....aka bloopers!
Thank you to the bands first of all for making and taking the time to prepare for the blog, supporting WDHA and me!!!...Thank you to WDHA who enable me to create such an entity with the local music scene and supply the passionate eager to be there staff in our office to do so!!! From my bosses to the promotions department this blog could not exist!! You know who you are;)
Thank you to Lacey Brock who I watched grow as an intern to a talented and smart beautiful woman. Lacey has been my right hand woman and has editted, produced and filmed my videos for the homegrown spotlight blog.....Thank you Lacey, for EVERYTHING...I couldn't have done any of this without you. My blonde talented little sister, I love you.
WDHA Homegrown spotlight bands keep playing that music and I'll keep supporting you always "An inspiration is what you are to me, inspiration, look... see.".....
Lets kick some major ________ _________________ into 2013! bleep bleep bleep!
Wishing all of you another year of magic, passion, and music!!!
All of my love to you,
Lindsay Klein
