New Theory at WDHA with Lindsay Klein

Posted 5/14/2013 3:06:00 PM

I've always been a huge fan of hard rock with big melodies.  Music that hits you in the face, then gets under you skinm and embraces your whole being.  Ok Im not being dramatic, Im just extremely passionate about a good melody!!!

New Theory was introduced to me by my friends in Dead Fish Handshake and I couldn't be happier with our introduction.  I knew I loved them by the sound of their music, but when I actually met them, it was perfection ten fold.  The members of New Theory are all very hard working guys who play music, because they LOVE it.  They're in it for the right reasons and are an absolute pleasure to work with, and an incredible show to watch.

I hosted a show a little while back that New Theory invited me to be a part of, and it was at this time ...

Catch Wild at WDHA with Lindsay Klein

Posted 5/7/2013 7:16:00 PM

Lead singer Jessica Rose and I had been emailing back and forth for a bit of time prior to meeting in person,  so I was super stoked to finally meet her and the band of Catch Wild in person.    I could tell by our conversations that we were going to hit it off professionally, and personally...I like to call it the "real world".   The whole band is fantastic with talented musicians full of energy!

In fact, each song they performed had so so so much energy, I think they may be the first band to stand and completely rock out during an acoustic session!  I like to let the bands know the concept of this blog, then let them use their own creativity to come up with a performance.  Catch Wild absolutely blew me away, and I can't wait to see them plugged in someday sooner then ...

Statik Silence at WDHA with Lindsay Klein

Posted 4/29/2013 10:01:00 PM

Statik Silence is no stranger to the WDHA Homegrown Spotlight blog.  Formerly under a different band name, "Life Without Warning", the band killed it a few years ago when they were one of my first bands to perform for the blog, and they absolutely blew it out of the water this time as well!  Like most good things, they have absolutely grown into their own and displayed so much maturity, musicality, and talent, this time around, I was floored.

Lead singer David Marin is an extraordinary lead vocalist.  His voice will shake you and send chills up your spine all at the same time.  He's amazing.  In addition, Danny Begley on guitar adds a beautiful harmony on back up vocals.   They have added a new member, Mr. Ed Lewis on drums, who was very excited to be here and I appreciated his enthusiasm:)  Plus  Zack and Andrew I have ...

Spinn at WDHA with Lindsay Klein

Posted 4/22/2013 3:45:00 PM

I have titled my DJ'ing outside of radio "Spin Spin Sugar" gigs, so I feel a lot of love for the band Spinn:)  Im half kidding...My gigs are entitled that yes, but I absolutely adore this spunky, energetic, talented, band because they are just awesome!!!

I've known one of the beautiful ladies, Ms. Megan Battaglia, for a few years now having a ton in common.  From the moment I met her I knew we were destined to be friends.  Megan is the kind of soul that when you walk into the room, the whole room just feels a little nicer from her sunny energetic vibe.

Similarly, the Spinn Sisters Cher and Steph are gems!!!  Yes they are sisters which isn't a stranger to our blog;)

Each lovely lady is  equally talented and brings an amazing element to the harmonies and melodies that make up the band Spinn. ...

Sundown Conspiracy at WDHA with Lindsay Klein

Posted 4/15/2013 1:09:00 PM

I met the band "Sundown Conspiracy" years ago at a local original show in the area, but I don't think we got close until this year.  A few of the members were involved in a local benefit show I hosted, and we got to spend "real" time with each other.  In fact, lead singer of Sundown Conspiracy, Bobby Casteel, was a major part of the benefit show along with Mike Inga also in the band, with their promotional company Legion Promotions.  Bobby did a phenomenal job singing with his band, and a tribute to one of our good friends who had passed.  I'll never forget how proud I was of Bobby for his amazing job that day all around, and for that matter all of Legion Promotions, and the musicians involved.

Sundown Conspiracy came to WDHA last week and just absolutely nailed their music and interview with complete preparation. ...

Black Summer at WDHA with Lindsay Klein

Posted 4/2/2013 8:16:00 PM

I met the gems in Black Summer at a benefit show I was a part of in October, and was instantly a fan.  I think one of the best parts about hosting local shows, is meeting new bands and making new friends.  Similary the bands on some level know eachother and help eachother and it grows into a family!   The local scene strives when bands come together and are in it together, so anytime I see a band who does that, I am even more attracted to their cause!

Black Summer is an excellent band in the local original scene who does an outstanding job at marketing themselves, while promoting other bands too.  It's really an amazing character trait to me, and I hope more and more bands learn to support eachother so we can all get down to the reason we do what we do, we love music.

She Said Fire at WDHA With Lindsay Klein

Posted 3/25/2013 12:34:00 PM

I met the band "She Said Fire" at a benefit show I hosted this year, and was immediately a fan!   Their music definitely stands out to me on the scene with a rock/swing/performance quality to it.  Joshua Hawksley, lead singer has so much passion and charisma to his singing you are immeidately drawn to his style and voice.   Great harmonies as well with Peter Strzelecki on guitar and vocals.   Then there's Mr. Chris Moss who is amazing to watch on and off the stage.  Side note, talk to this man, he may be one of the funniest people I know !! Love his personality!

Josh, Chris, and Peter went by the name "The August Infinity" in a previous band with other members, but in August of 2012, they added the beautiful and talented Christina Vitucci on drums, which changed the dynamic of the band into a ...

Blue Food at WDHA with Lindsay Klein

Posted 3/18/2013 2:42:00 PM

Blue Food, named after the George Carlin routine, is a 7 piece funk band with elements of rock, jazz, metal, you name it! There really is no genre that can best describe this band except amazingly talented and eye/ear catching!

The blog is no stranger to a large band with many instruments....In fact, drummer Odin Alvarez shares the role of drums in this band as well as Thank You Scientist, who have been played on WDHA with me, as well as winners in our competition Clash For Cash at the Racetrack last year.  Both bands are completely unique in their own way on the scene, and I feel blessed to now have had worked with them both!

Please give a listen to Blue Food's debut album "Engines" available now, as well as head over to their website www.bluefood.com and www.facebook.com/BlueFoodMusic.

Also if you're in the area they ...

Machine Elves at WDHA with Lindsay Klein

Posted 3/12/2013 1:15:00 PM

I have been hearing about the band Machine Elves for quite some time now, and was just dying to see for myself what the hype was!!  They came onto my blog last week and we had such a great time.  I'd like to say we come from the same "breed", and that being a very quirky one!  As I say in the interview below, I speak the same language as the band Machine Elves, we are unique peeps!

After the band came onto my show, I was reading their bio online, and I couldn't agree more with what was written.  It's really difficult to describe the band into one genre which many bands can fall into, but when asked, "party rock the way it should be" has been quoted :)

Lead singer Joey Calveri brings a theatrical energy into their performances with a background in acting/singing including being ...

Seas of Wake at WDHA with Lindsay Klein

Posted 3/5/2013 2:04:00 PM

I've known Seas of Wake for awhile now outside and inside the industry and they continue to impress me on any and every level.   I consider them friends in the "real world", but having them on my show was the first time I ever saw them stripped down and acoustic.  It's always a magical experience for myself watching a band get raw and acoustic, and it was even more amazing for me to see Seas of Wake stripped down, because plugged in they are a passionate, hard rocking, stage ripping, metal band!!!!  I swear!!!!

Lead singer Shaun Mason and I worked really closely together on a very personal benefit show at Dingbatz a few months ago, and I have to just add here, that he absolutely touched my heart strings with his amazing performance...The Harry Dullys memorial show..Thank you Shaun for exemplifying talent , charisma, and honor. ...

Damn This Desert Air at WDHA with Lindsay Klein

Posted 2/25/2013 2:42:00 PM

I've known the band Damn This Desert Air for years now, and continue to grow more and more into a HUGE fan as they grow as a band!!!!  As people I consider them personal friends, in music, I consider them some of my favorite local musicians around.  I've worked with this band on the stage and within WDHA and I can't say enough about how much I love them...and you know this man!

From their artwork on their MANY creative Tshirts, to the album covers, to the vinyl, hoodies,  etc etc..This band goes above and beyond with their merchandise selection.

Plugged in or acoustic, Damn This Desert Air is one of the most passionate and exciting live shows around.  Lead singer Craig Cirinelli may be tall, but his height doesn't stop him from using the ENTIRE stage!!!!  Every member of this band has complete devotion to the ...

Scarlet Scourge at WDHA with Lindsay Klein

Posted 2/19/2013 5:47:00 PM

I am a hopeless romantic....oops did I just admit that outloud???  Ok fine, it's true, I am! Which is why I find the name and meaning behind the band "The Scarlet Scourge" so intriguing!  They explain it in our interview, but I'll just add here that it has to do with letters and love during World War 2!! Remember the good old days when people wrote letters??  Ok, maybe I'm old fashioned but its just so romantic!  Please give a listen to the interview for more details on that!!

I've known a few members of the band The Scarlet Scourge and was definitely stoked to finally get them into the studio to perform for the blog!!! Amazing people outside and inside the music industry, lets give them some love!! For more information please head to their facebook page and definitely check them out if you can live! In fact, ...

AJ Penta & The Stallions at WDHA with Lindsay Klein

Posted 2/11/2013 1:18:00 PM

Dont be surprised by the band's name, they are in fact italian "stallions", but they are also amazingly talented musicians!  We had a lot of fun during the filming of the Homegrown Spotlight blog with AJ and one stallion, Vinny...

These guys are extremely passionate musicians and take "do it yourself" to a whole new level! They are raw and genuine talent, and it was a pleasure having them on the blog!

They do perform acoustically on the road together, or you can find AJ solo alot as well. Their events and music can be found at www.facebook.com/AJPentaMusic.

Although Vinny has been performing his whole life, AJ is only a few years into his guitar work....absolutely a prime example of natural talent!

Please check out AJ and his "stallion" Vinny inside the homegrown spotlight this week..you may or may not see a handstand:)

Nalani & Sarina at WDHA with Lindsay Klein

Posted 2/4/2013 8:06:00 PM

Last week was my first blog with two female musicians, and this week is not only another blog with females, but they are twin sisters!!! Another first for me and Im so blessed to have such variety for this blog!!!

Nalani & Sarina are not only gorgeous on the outside, but truly a gift of sunlight to the core.  They will light up any room with their radiant energy!!  They are identical twins, and thank god they get along because they are such a gift to watch and listen too....just absolutely beautiful sound and vision!

I met these two sisters at a benefit I was hosting and was blown away by their charisma and unique song writing.  I had to have them on my show!! Please give a listen to the below acoustic song but also check out their websites/facebook pages to see them in person!! Nalani & ...

Bern & The Brights at WDHA with Lindsay Klein

Posted 1/28/2013 11:53:00 AM

I absolutely adore this band so, so much!!!! I met them a few years ago at the Hoboken Music Awards and was just blown away by their passionate soulful sound.  Bern & the Brights are a four piece band, but for this blog I was graced with the presence of Ms. Bernadette and Catherine.  It was my first experience with two females performing, and it couldn't have been more perfect.  They are both extremely talented and their energy radiates off of them as they perform.

Bern & the Brights describe themselves as romantic nerd-rock...They are just absolute characters and great people from the inside and out!  I was tapping my foot the whole time these lovely ladies perfromed today so I'd like to say, "I'm a nerd!!!"

Formed in 2008 Bern & the Brights have played many fantastic stages and I am honored to have them on "ours" ...

A Balance Between at WDHA with Lindsay Klein

Posted 1/22/2013 12:30:00 PM

I met the gents in "A Balance Between" opening up for Helmet at the Stanhope House not too long ago.  I had been at the show of course tp see Helmet, but another Homegrown band "Damn this Desert Air" was also performing!  I was stoked for a Sunday night music experience....

When "A Balance Between" started playing I was in the back of the room, and I swear I was instantly struck dead in my tracks.  I HAD to know who this band was.  I was instantly a fan and extremely impressed.  There is NOTHING like going to a show and discovering a new band ....one that rips into your ears and captures your attention, even better.

The guys were then invited to my Homegrown Spotlight Blog and we became friends.  I have to say out of all of the bands I play, their musical style and taste ...

Mother's Wine at WDHA with Lindsay Klein

Posted 1/14/2013 1:37:00 PM

I heard nothing but amazing things about "Mother's Wine" from a former coworker and a current friend who is also a member of the band, so I couldn't wait to have them onto my show!  These guys abolutely lived up to their great reputation, and were bursting with personality as well.

Mother's Wine adds a fantastic flavor to the WDHA Homegrown Spotlight blog.  They are all very unique musicians on their own, and come together to create a funky jam band sound.

No stranger to great stages such as Mexicali and Sullivan hall, you will also find a great fit with these guys at festivals!  I happen to call myself in life a big "wino" and I am now a "Mother's Wine" Wino as well!

Please check out our interview below and an acoustic performance from these awesome guys!!! For more information, also head to www.facebook.com/motherswine.  Take ...

WDHA Homegrown Spotlight Bloopers 2012!!!!

Posted 1/3/2013 2:08:00 PM

I've been full time doing the night space on WDHA (Monday-Friday 7pm-midnight) for about seven years now, but the homegrown spotlight segment on the airwaves has been around well beyond that.  I am honored and priviliged to be a part of the local original music scene and about two and a half years ago, came up with the idea for this blog.

I play one track from a local original artist every night Monday - Thursday about 11:30 pm and highlight a band on the airwaves. It's an awesome specialty segment to my show, and I love receiving new CD's in the mail, emails, etc..but I wanted it to grow.  With my extensive background in acting I decided to take it to the camera!!  The WDHA Homegrown Spotlight blog features a blog entry on our radio website in which I do a little write up on the band, then ...

Chelsea Carlson at WDHA with Lindsay Klein

Posted 12/18/2012 6:15:00 PM

It's funny because I'm often told I have an "old soul" in musical ways.  Not concering my personal life of course:), but Im a classic rock chic who loves to spin vinyl, and wish often that I had been able to play vinyl in radio as well.  Similarly, I think a big connection with singer/song writer Chelsea Carlson and I, is that she has an "old soul" when it comes to music about her as well.

Don't get me wrong, the woman is drop dead gorgeous and doesnt look a day over her age, but she has a warm wise energy to her soul, that captures you into her music.  Inspired by the greats such as Robert Plant, Janis Joplin, and Roger Waters, Chelsea uses their classic musical success and combines it with her own modern rock edge.  She is a breath of fresh air and very unique in ...

Audio Machine at WDHA with Lindsay Klein

Posted 12/4/2012 10:35:00 AM

I met a few of the members in Audio Machine before they came into the WDHA studios to perform for the blog, because they were supporting WDHA and me!! I have nothing but amazing things to say about these guys!!  They have given me more support then I could've even imagined as far as my show and my WDHA career, and in turn, they get mine ten fold:)

Audio Machine is a hard rock band who will make you bang your head and shake what your mama gave you during one song, the next lead vocalist Dave Marcus can stop you in your tracks and send shivers up your spine!!!    These guys have die hard fans, and I am completely confident they always will! They put more then 100% into anything and everything they do and I love their passion for life and music!
