Happy Birthday Chad Smith!
By: Mike Bober
10/24/2012

Let’s all wish a Happy 51st Birthday to the drummer who just “Can’t Stop”, Chad Smith!

The Red Hot Chili Peppers musician was born on October 25th, 1961 in St. Paul Minnesota and has paved the way for young aspiring drummers ever since, but quickly moved to Bloomfield Hills, Michigan where he grew up.

Starting at just 7-years-old, Smith’s first drum set consisted of empty Baskin Robbins containers and Lincoln Logs as drumsticks. When he was in 4th grade Chad began taking lessons and eventually joined his first band at the age of 11.

Smith’s rock attitude was immediately noticed by the Red Hot Chili Peppers in 1988. After  nailing the audition to become their drummer, they offered him the gig as long as he shaved his head.

Smith showed up the next day with his full head of long hair, and the group respected his decision to ignore their request; he became a vital part of their success throughout the 90’s and 2000’s.

In addition to his work with the RHCP, Smith is also the drummer for the rock super group Chickenfoot and has his own side-project, Chad Smith’s Bombastic Meatbats.

Smith’s work doesn’t just come from behind the drums. He regularly donates to non-profit organizations and children’s hospitals across the United States. He’s also dedicated to teaching fellow drummers, whether it’s at the Drummer’s Collective in New York or through his own educational DVD’s and books.

Keep on rockin’ Chad and have an awesome birthday!
