Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett says that the group is excited about releasing its just-announced DVD/Blu-ray, "Quebec Magnetic."

Hammett tells us the group has been sitting on the set, which hails from a two-show stand in October of 2009:

"All that is we just played two really phenomenal shows in Quebec City. They were just outrageously great and the audience was great, and we had a bunch of people filming it. We're really doing a disservice just sitting on this great live footage, so we decided to put it out."

"We're kind of working our way through it and make sure everything's right with it, the packaging's right, the sound is right, the editing's right."

The video was directed by Wayne Isham and features one entire show as well as eight bonus songs taken from the other performance. The release will be the first on Metallica's own, yet-to-be-named label.

Metallica is also working on its 3D movie, which is slated for release next summer, and plans to start recording a new album early next year.
