$40,000 may seem like a bit much to pay for a broken bass guitar bought from a pawn shop.
But to those familiar with the revolutionary “Smells Like Teen Spirit” music video, the price may not seem as steep.
Towards the end of the video, Nirvana’s legendary frontman Kurt Cobain smashes the bass guitar used by Krist Novoselic.
According to The Independent, Novoselic had purchased the guitar at a pawn shop at a cheap price in 1991, knowing it would be destroyed during the shoot.
Well now, that mangled guitar is being auctioned off at the entertainment memorabilia sale next month at Christie's in London and is estimated to sell for between $24,000 and $40,000!
Also being placed up for auction is Bob Dylan’s 1958 high school yearbook, which includes a hand written message to a fellow classmate from the singer that reads:"Dear Jerry, Well the year's almost all over now huh. Remember the 'sessions' down at Collier. Keep practicing the guitar and maybe someday you'll be great! A friend, Bob Zimmerman."
The yearbook is expected to sell for close to $10,000, and the auction for both items will take place on November 29th.
