Hurricane Sandy Telethon Raises Nearly $23 Million
By: Mike Bober
11/6/2012

In the wake of a natural disaster, we can often be reminded of just how powerful we can be when we stick together.

The devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy has left many in need of aid, and pleas for donations have been spread all over the United States.

NBC also made a plea to help those in need by putting together the “Hurricane Sandy, Coming Together” telethon.

The hour-long event, which included performances by Bruce Springsteen, Christina Aguilera, Sting, Billy Joel, Jon Bon Jovi, Mary J. Blige and Aerosmith, as well as appearances by Jimmy Fallon, Tina Fey, Jon Stewart and Whoopi Goldberg, raised over $22 million dollars for the American Red Cross relief efforts.

Peggy Dyer, chief marketing officer for the American Red Cross, released a statement saying "Our preliminary results of nearly $23 million raised are an extraordinary example of how the American people pull together in times of disaster. Their generous donations will go directly to those in need, and we urge the public to continue to give.”
