Linkin Park has certainly built up some good karma with their fundraising efforts for the Hurricane Sandy relief, and they were repaid for it last night at the American Music Awards.
The group won the award for Favorite Artist in the Alternative Rock category, beating out The Black Keys and Linkin Park also performed at the show, rocking their single, “Burn it Down” onstage at the Nokia Theater in LA.
During a red carpet interview with The Hollywood Reporter prior to the awards, vocalists Mike Shinoda and Chester Bennington shared their thoughts on the current conditions of the music industry, stating that the biggest change has come in performance style.
Shinoda notes that Linkin Park was the only rock act scheduled to perform at the AMAs, and describes backstage as having far more extras and backups dancers nowadays.
He explains, “You see a lot more people backstage because of the style of performance has changed. As opposed to having a handful of people playing a song on stage, you have a gang of a hundred people in costumes dancing around and doing something that’s more performance oriented or theatrical.”
Linkin Park released their fifth studio album Living Things back in June, debuting at number one on the Billboard Top 200.
The band wrap up their 2012 concert dates with a show at the Gibson Ampitheatre in Universal City, CA on December 8th, and have a short Australian tour booked for the beginning of next year.
