Despite reports last week from the New York Post that Courtney Love would be working on a documentary about her late husband, Kurt Cobain, with filmmaker Brett Morgen, it seems as though only one of the two is actually in on the project.
Morgen, who recently directed the Rolling Stones documentary Crossfire Hurricane, told Entertainment Weekly that his comments regarding Love and himself having the biopic in the works since 2007 had been taken out of context.
He explains that the two did meet up five years ago to discuss the possibility of Morgen making a film about the Nirvana singer’s life, and while Love was supportive, she had no plans of getting involved.
Morgen tells Entertainment Weekly, “Since that time, I have been speaking exclusively with Kurt Cobain’s estate, who have given me their full cooperation in order to make the film. Courtney isn’t currently involved with the project in any capacity.”
Love’s publicist confirms this in another statement to EW, also reporting that Love thinks very highly of Morgen’s directing and is “very happy” he’s making the movie.
The documentary, which is slated for release sometime in 2014, will apparently incorporate Cobain’s own artwork and poetry to tell the story of his life, as if from the singer’s perspective.
Reports surfaced a few weeks ago that Courtney Love was also working on a musical about her late husband’s life, but she has since denied those rumors.
