Kid Rock Discusses Re-Recording "Devil Without a Cause"
By: Gary Graff
11/26/2012

Kid Rock has just released his brand new album, "Rebel Soul," but his next release might be revisiting an old classic. Rock tells us that he plans to re-record 1998's "Devil Without a Cause," an 11-times platinum landmark that put him on the map and remains his best-selling album.

Rock says that part of the motivation is to own a set of master recordings for the "Devil" songs so he can profit from them exclusively, but he also feels that the new version of "Devil" will be different enough from the original to warrant the revisit:

"People that have seen us live, they know the versions we're doing of 'Cowboy' and 'Wasting Time.' I'm not gonna say they're gonna be better than the originals -- that's tough to top. But I think there's something special about them that people will dig."

"They're kinda going to be the way a lot of people have seen us play these different versions live, whether it's 'Bawitdaba,' 'Cowboy,' 'Only Good Knows Why,' 'Bullgod'...We've twisted them up so much to where I think it's very interesting. I think 'Wasting Time' could be a single. It could be a very big song the way we're playing it now, without the Fleetwood Mac samples. I just think it could be fun. I think people would dig it."

Rock hopes to have the new "Devil" out by August to commemorate the album's 15th anniversary, and he says some special performances of "Devil" in its entirety are possible.

Meanwhile he's busy promoting "Rebel Soul," with December 30-31 shows in Hollywood, Florida, and a full-scale tour slated to start in early February.
