Alice in Chains fans have been waiting three years for the band to follow up 2009’s Black Gives Way to Blue, and it sounds like that wait will soon be over.
Guitarist Jerry Cantrell recently confirmed that the group has finished recording their latest album, which is currently untitled; the record will be the band’s second with singer William DuVall, who replaced Layne Stanley after his death in 2002, and their fifth studio album overall.
In an interview with Guitar World, Cantrell discussed the new album’s release, explaining, “It’s like having to deal with the sophomore jinx for the second time in our career.”
Despite the nerves, though, the guitarist seems confident about Alice in Chains’ latest material, comparing it to Black Gives Way to Blue by saying, “In my opinion, that record stood up to anything we’ve put out in our career. And this new one is right up there as well.”
Alice in Chains doesn’t currently have any tour dates scheduled, but the band is set to play two festivals come 2013: the UK’s Download Festival on June 14th and Brazil’s Rock in Rio on September 13th.
