2012 has been a rough year in many ways for Green Day, but it looks like they’re determined to end it right.
The rock trio announced today (December 31st) that they will be touring in 2013, with dates scheduled for March and April, though their concerts set for January and February have now been canceled.
In the official press release, the band stated, “We want to thank everyone for hanging in with us for the last few months. We are very excited to hit the road and see all of you again, though we regret having to cancel more shows.”
Green Day initially canceled all of their upcoming appearances back in the fall, after frontman Billie Joe Armstrong entered rehab for his substance abuse issues. At the time, the group was in the midst of promoting their album trilogy, Uno!, Dos!, Tre!
Armstrong recently gave an update on his health on Instagram, with the message:
“Dear friends... I just want to thank you all for the love and support you've shown for the past few months. Believe me, it hasn't gone unnoticed and I'm eternally grateful to have such an amazing set of friends and family. I'm getting better everyday. So now, without further ado, the show must go on. We can't wait to get on the road and live out load! Our passion has only grown stronger.”
Fans that purchased tickets to the postponed concerts will have them honored at the upcoming newly scheduled dates, and those with tickets to the canceled shows can receive refunds.
Green Day is also expected to announce further concert dates for the west coast sometime in early 2013.
