The term “down time” apparently does not exist in the vocabulary of The Black Keys.
Coming off an extremely successful 2012, complete with several Grammy nominations, sold out shows, and their latest LP, El Camino, reaching the coveted platinum status, the blues rock duo are more than excited to get back into the studio.
Guitarist/singer Dan Auerbach told Uncut (via NME) in a recent interview that the band’s plan is to begin recording sometime this week. He and his bandmate, drummer Patrick Carney, aren’t going to be wasting any time either; the album hasn’t been written yet and they plan to have it ready by March.
Auerbach explained, “This is when we both work best, when we're dying to make an album. All of our records take place in the studio, in that we make stuff up while we're there.”
Longtime Black Keys counterpart Danger Mouse will reportedly have a hand in producing the album with Auerbach and Carney, which is being recorded in a remote studio in Northern Michigan. Danger Mouse worked with the group on 2008’s Attack and Release, as well as their hit “Tighten Up” from 2010’s Brothers.
The Keys also recently announced four spring shows that they will be playing with The Flaming Lips in Kansas City (4/28), Pittsburgh (4/30), Atlanta (5/2) and Nashville (5/3).
