Happy Birthday Alice Cooper!
By: Ray Hidalgo
2/1/2013

We're pretty geeked to wish one of our favorite rockers a Happy Birthday on this February 4th!  We don't know if Alice Cooper will be celebrating with zombie makeup, horror movies, guillotines, giant snakes, and heavy metal leather getups, but we hope so.

Yes it's true that many of his hits are gloomy such as “Poison”, “No More Mr. Nice Guy”, “Feed My Frankenstein”, and “Welcome to My Nightmare”. Perhaps the biggest shock, however, is that it’s all for show. Cooper has appeared in anti-drug PSAs and golf club commercials (yes, he loves to golf), run for governor of Arizona, helped donate musical instruments to underprivileged kids, and declared himself a born-again Christian. The ultimate irony is that his music is equally deceptive.

"The funny thing [about my music and shows] was this: There was no bad language, there was no nudity, there was nothing un-Christian," Cooper said in a 2007 interview with NPR. "But that made it even more irritating, I think, to the general public, that they couldn't really ban us because there was nothing to ban..”

Despite two stints in rehab during the ‘70s for alcoholism, Cooper has stayed on the wagon since 1983. Happily married with three grown children, Cooper and his wife, Sheryl, have happily settled down in Phoenix. On occasion, they may be daring enough to go out for some sushi and a movie, after hours.

If not, "a great time for me is smashed up against each other on the couch, watching something great (on TV)," Sheryl told AZcentral.com in 2011. "Sounds pretty wonderful to me."

Perhaps the real demonic demeanor of Alice Cooper can be summed up best with what he told EuropeanTour.com about his attitude toward the downsides of golf: “I’ve hit bad shots, but I’ve never thrown a club.”

Happy Birthday Alice!
