Hard rock underdogs Halestorm won the Grammy for “Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance” at the awards ceremony last Sunday for their song “Love Bites (So Do I)” and, needless to say, the group was beyond shocked!
Noisecreep caught up with drummer Arejay Hale after the ceremony, who was “dizzy” with disbelief at the win, stating: “I'm still waiting for someone to tell us that we were punked. I know a lot of people get up there and say they're shocked and didn't expect to win, but I'm here to tell you, we were shocked and in no way did we expect to win!”
Many rock fans weren’t as thrilled about the band’s big win though. They were up against some deserving competition from the likes of Iron Maiden, Anthrax, Lamb of God, Megadeth, and Marilyn Manson. But Arejay, who began Halestorm with sister Lzzy Hale at the age of 10 way back in 1997, isn’t sweating the criticism.
“So if people have to take the time to say something hateful or mean for whatever reason, it means the band is growing more and more and that more fans are finding out about us and that's a valuable thing,” he told Noisecreep. “My sister and I have been doing this for 16 years and that's a long time. This was like a vindication, this Grammy, this was something that said to us, we did it.”
