The man responsible for introducing generation after generation to punk music, lead singer of the trio Green Day, Billie Joe Armstrong has a birthday today!
Billie Joe started Green Day at the tender age of 15 with childhood friend Mike Dirnt with whom he shared a deep love of classic punk rock. After adding drummer Tre Cool to the lineup, the band made the leap from the underground to the mainstream with 1994’s “Dookie” and never looked back. They released “American Idiot” in 2004 which sold 6 million copies and Billie became known all over the world for his black shirt, red tie, and rebel attitude.
And though some may doubt Green Day’s punk cred with the premiere of the rock opera “American Idiot” on Broadway in 2010, the guys proved they’ve still got it with 2012’s three part release “¡UNO!... ¡DOS!... ¡TRÉ!”
Following a brief stint in rehab, Billie Joe is ready to tour again with Green Day beginning in March and the band is stronger than ever. See the trailer for the new SXSW documentary about Billie Joe entitled “Cuatro!” below and head to Green Day’s official website to see the full list of their upcoming tour dates.
