The Rock and Roll lifestyle isn’t always the best recipe for a healthy marriage, but two of the 90’s most iconic artists decided to take their chances anyway.
Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain and Hole singer Courtney Love tied the knot exactly 21 years ago today during a ceremony in Waikiki, HI, with Cobain infamously donning a pair of green pajamas and Love already pregnant with daughter, Francis Bean.
Their unconventional wedding was truly symbolic of their unique relationship, which was at times, volatile and tumultuous. The pair first met in 1990, when Love pursued Cobain after encountering him at a show in Portland, OR. Weary of the possibility of a serious relationship, and probably of Love’s overwhelming confidence, it took the shy singer a few months after their initial meeting to connect with his future wife.
The couple shared a deep love for one another, but also shared substance abuse problems, making their relationship rockier all the time. Still, Cobain and Love stuck it out, and were together up until Cobain’s untimely death in 1994.
Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love are easily one of Rock and Roll’s most legendary couples. Though there’s no telling whether they would’ve remained together through the years, the pair’s romance will always be idolized by the grunge generation.
