Going into your favorite record store, browsing the rows and stacks of albums and finding something truly awesome is somewhat of a lost practice in today’s generation, and Record Store Day helps return us to those roots of discovering music.
But besides supporting local businesses, and feeling the nostalgia of yesteryear, the annual spring celebration also provides music buffs with some exclusive releases from their favorite artists.
So far, bands such as deftones, the Black Keys and Linkin Park have all announced that they will be dropping special edition vinyl records to commemorate the April 20th event. Trumping all of these artists, perhaps, is Detroit rocker and Record Store Day ambassador Jack White, who has announced that he will be reissuing the White Stripes’ fourth studio album, Elephant.
According to the Third Man Records website, the release will come in the form of a remastered double-vinyl, and the two LPs will be pressed in different colors (red/black and white, respectively). The band will also reportedly re-release the album on standard black in the following months.
The White Stripes officially split in 2011, and have made it clear that they have no plans to reunite anytime soon. Jack White has gone on to establish Third Man Records in Nashville and launch a successful solo career, while Meg White has been enjoying a quieter life in Detroit.
Still, with Elephant celebrating its 10th anniversary on April 1st, the duo that made it big with songs like “Seven Nation Army” and “Ball and Biscuit” obviously couldn’t help but celebrate a bit.
