Residing in a time that allows musicians to record and release albums at the drop of a hat, both aspiring and established artists have to find a way to stand out; something the Black Crowes definitely took into consideration with their forthcoming LP, Wiser for the Time.
The band has released the first song off of the live album to RollingStone.com, and it may sound slightly familiar to diehard music fans. The track is a cover of Bob Dylan’s “Tonight I’ll Be Staying Here with You,” with a clear, Crowes twist.
“The Black Crowes have always covered a lot of Bob's songs,” frontman Chris Robinson told Rolling Stone. “In my mind, this great tapestry of music we are involved in cannot be weaved without sharing Bob's mighty threads!”
As if doing Dylan wasn’t enough, Wiser for the Time will also include several other unique elements. According to BlackCrowes.com, the album, which was recorded in 2010 during the band’s 5-night set of sold-out shows in NYC, will be released on four vinyl LPs and contain a whopping 26 songs, both acoustic and electric. The never-before released songs will also be available for digital download.
The Black Crowes, who have been on hiatus for three years, will also embark on a series of UK and US concert dates for their Lay Down with Number 13 tour, beginning March 24th in Manchester, ENG and wrapping up on May 31st in Kansas City, MO.
Wiser for the Time is due out on March 19th.
