Evanescence these days is a very different band than the one that released the seven-times-platinum "Fallen," but it still plans to commemorate the album's 10-year anniversary.
On May 21 the group will release a limited edition purple vinyl edition of the set, which introduced the Arkansas group to the world with hits such as "Bring Me To Life" and "My Immortal." "Fallen," which came out March 4, 2003, has sold more than 17 million copies around the world and peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, while it went No. 1 in the U.K., Canada, Australia and Austria.
Group leader Amy Lee tells us that "Fallen's" success has allowed Evanescence to endure despite significant lineup changes -- including the departure of co-founder and co-writer Ben Moody during the "Fallen" tour -- long waits between the band's other albums and shifting trends in the music industry:
"We're really lucky in that we have a very large, very awesome, very passionate fan base. So I feel like if we make something, our fans are going to hear it. I think the challenge is trying to get new people to hear your music, and what is the way? I don't think there's a set way. I think it's a lot more word-of-mouth than it used to be. I think people listen to stuff because they heard about it from their friend or saw something on the Internet...It's not like they're seeing it on MTV."
Evanescence is currently on hiatus after extensive touring to promote its self-titled 2011 album.
