Van Halen will perform on July 20 at the Rock USA Festival in Oshkosh, Wisc. -- its first announced U.S. date of the year and, of course, fueling rumors about more shows and perhaps even a full-scale tour for 2013.
The quartet canned 31 planned dates last summer, cancellations that have never been fully explained by the band. But it's gradually working its way into live work this year, with a performance at Australia's inaugural Stone Music Festival on April 20 and three June shows in Canada.
The group still ostensibly be promoting last year's "A Different Kind of Truth," an album bassist Wolfgang Van Halen tells us the band has no problem standing behind:
"I'm really proud of the record. I think it's a great record, and I think it really captures the old Van Halen sound because they're from demos of the older days. I kinda wanted to put dad, Al and Dave into the mindspace of when they wrote, like, 'Runnin' With the Devil' and 'Dance the Night Away' and stuff like that. I think we did a pretty good job."
There's no word on future Van Halen recording plans. More information about Rock USA can be found at http://www.rockusaoshkosh.com/ and at the festival's Facebook page.
