The gentlemen of Tool are giving fans some Easter Egg hunt practice by hiding five “Seal of Xatanitos” cards within 5,000 reissues of their EP Opiate.
According to the Australian site Music Feeds, the heavy metal rockers are making some copies available on their official site on March 26 and have made sure that none of the copies will be available for preorder or at stores. If you are a part of the Tool Army fanbase, ($40-$99 membership fee) you can get your hands on these EPs tomorrow at their official website.
MetalInsider reports that the prize for stumbling upon one of the seals will only be disclosed to the winners. What a tease! The nature of the seal, however, probably has something to do with Tarot cards. In 1913, scholarly mystic Arthur Edward Waite, a major figure in Tarot history, wrote in his 1913 book The Book of Ceremonial Magic (via Cabinet Magazine) that the term Xatonitos regarded shuffling and luck revolving around five cards. Sounds pretty familiar.
Aside from the mysterious cards, there will be five somewhat aesthetically different versions of the album, each covering 1,000 units in separate releases. For now, get your mice, credit cards, and keyboards ready because this Willy Wonkesque goose chase may be worth more than mere chocolate.
