Richie Sambora will not be performing with Bon Jovi on the remainder of their Because We Can tour until further notice, citing “personal issues” as the reason on the band’s official website.
The shows will go on as scheduled but fans are now left to wonder what “personal issues” could really mean.
Sambora, who has repeatedly struggled with alcoholism and substance abuse in the past, could be headed for another stint in rehab. The guitarist missed the first 13 shows of Bon Jovi’s 2011 tour due to seeking treatment for alcoholism.
However, some publications are reporting a very different story.
According to TMZ, Sambora’s “personal issues” don’t have to do with substance abuse but rather a long running feud between the guitarist and frontman Jon Bon Jovi that has recently come to head.
Jon, who apparently “constantly belittles Richie,” told the crowd at last night’s Calgary concert after Sambora didn’t show up, “I had two choices: pack up and go home or give you everything I got… Richie Sambora won’t be performing for a while. If there’s ever a night I need you, it’s tonight, Calgary!” TMZ reports.
The band is scheduled to play a series of 14 shows across Canada and the US, in support of their No. 1 album What About Now, before heading to South Africa and Europe this summer. No official statement has been made yet on Sambora’s health or his future with the tour.
Stay tuned to Bon Jovi’s official website for more news.
