Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx is moving forward with another production on the big stage, but it won’t be in an arena alongside his bandmates. Instead, the rocker will be taking on Broadway.
Sixx’s show is reportedly making progress in the preliminary stages, and the star explained to the BBC last November that he expects the musical to open in late 2013 to early 2014.
Sixx recently told the New York Post, “We’re moving quickly [but are not] close to casting.”
The play will be based on his eye-opening autobiography and 2007 New York Times bestseller, The Heroin Diaries for which he also created the band, Sixx A.M. as a side project to record a companion soundtrack.
When discussing the style of the musical, Sixx made sure to warn the New York Post that, “It’s not gonna be ‘Mamma Mia!”
Sixx’s life has always ventured on the “Wild Side,” but the Motley Crue bassist also knows what it’s like when the Rock and Roll lifestyle gets out of hand. The Heroin Diaries chronicles Sixx’s life from 1986-1987 when he hit rock-bottom due to his addiction to cocaine and heroin.
We’re curious as to how this project will play out, but rock-opera style musicals such as “Rock of Ages” have proved to be successful in the past.
Meanwhile, Motley Crue has just announced their second Las Vegas residency at The Joint inside the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. The band kicks off a dozen shows on September 18 and wrap up on October 6.
