Count Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready as one of those excited about fellow Seattle group Heart's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame tonight (April 18) in Los Angeles.
McCready is scheduled to join Heart on stage along with Alice in Chains' Jerry Cantrell, while Soundgarden's Chris Cornell will give the induction speech. McCready tells us it will be a great night for his home town:
"Yeah, I totally am excited for them to get into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I texted both Ann and Nancy and said, 'Hey, it's about time!' It's great that a) that women are getting into it more and they are rock stars from Seattle, Washington, and they were every integral. Before anything happened here they were and are the kind of real rock stars from here. As a young teenager playing in bands and even before that I knew of Heart and I went and met them at Peaches Records in 1978 and it was a big deal, 'cause you felt like they were a part of Seattle history...It was pretty much male dominated back then, and they could rock as good if not better than most bands back then. I'm glad they're getting the accolades they truly deserve and I love Ann and Nancy dearly."
Heart will be inducted alongside Rush, Randy Newman, rap group Public Enemy, the late disco queen Donna Summer and the late blues guitarist and rock influence Albert King, as well as non-performers Quincy Jones and Lou Adler. Foo Fighters Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins are slated to induct Rush.
The ceremony will be filmed by HBO and broadcast on May 18.
