A day after receiving a special honor at the annual Revolver Golden Gods Awards in Los Angeles, Metallica will be feted back home by the San Francisco Giants with Metallica Night on Friday (May 3) at AT&T Park before the baseball team's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The quartet will throw out a collective first pitch, while James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett will perform the National Anthem on their guitars -- which will be signed and auctioned off to benefit the Giants Community Fund and Bill Graham Memorial Foundation. Metallica "entertainment features" will play on the stadium's scoreboard throughout the game, and a special ticket package includes a limited edition baseball cap.
In a statement, Metallica said that, "We're psyched to be teaming up with the World Series champs for the first ever Metallica Night...! When the Giants take on their arch-rivals the Los Angeles Dodgers, we'll be on hand to kick off the game...joining the orange and black fanatics with Metallica vibes and shenanigans throughout the evening to cheer on the team."
Drummer Lars Ulrich, meanwhile, told us that Metallica has always remained loyal to its home town:
"Listen, it's awesome that you can continue to conjure up different experiences. We've played Candlestick (Park), played what it is called this week, AT&T, where the Giants play. We've obviously played Oakland. We've played every indoor building and every club and theater and so on. It's another privilege and, again, a chance to do anything in the home town and in our back yard is an opportunity we always jump on."
In addition to the Golden God honor on Thursday (May 2), Metallica is prepping for its second Orion Music + More Festival on June 8-9 at Belle Isle in Detroit; Metallica is slated to close the event on June 9.
