Today marks the 37th anniversary of the release of AC/DC’s album High Voltage, which introduced the Australian rockers to the States, and developed a following that made them an international phenomenon.
The album combines material from High Voltage and T.N.T., which were originally released separately in the land down under, and includes songs such as “Rock ‘n’ Roll Singer,” “High Voltage,” “T.N.T,” and “Live Wire.”
Originally met with mixed reviews in the U.S., Rolling Stone called the album the “all-time low” for the hard rock genre upon its release. Fans disagreed though, and by 2005, the LP had sold more than 3 million copies.
High Voltage is one of only three of the group’s albums released in the U.S. featuring the lineup that made them icons, along with Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap and Let There Be Rock. The album is also one of only five of the band’s U.S. releases featuring lead singer Bon Scott at the helm, who passed away in 1980 and was later replaced by Brian Johnson.
AC/DC’s single “T.N.T” resurfaced in 2010, when it was featured in the Iron Man 2 soundtrack with 14 of the band’s other songs, hitting #4 on the Billboard 200 chart.
Two years later, the LP's material reentered the charts once more when “T.N.T.” hit #50 on the Hot Digital Songs Chart after it was released on iTunes, along with the group’s other 26 albums.
So blast a jolt into your day by cranking up some High Voltage, and celebrate the album that made AC/DC the Rock and Roll icons they are today!
