While Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich is at the Cannes Film Festival this week looking for foreign distribution for “Metallica Through the Never,” the group's upcoming IMAX 3D movie, frontman James Hetfield gave us an update on its creative progress.
Hetfield tells us that:
“The film is not done. We're extremely close. There's editing, dialing, sounds, mixing, things like that that have to happen. But it's pretty complex. It's like three movies in one...So there's a lot of different dynamics happening within this movie, and every time we go and see it and tweak here and there. It's like putting a song together -- only it's a little more expensive. It's pretty scary but it's been something on our radar for awhile.”
“Metallica Through the Never” is slated to debut September 27 in the U.S. and mixes performance footage filmed in Vancouver with a plot that involves actor Dane DeHaan (“Chronicle," "The Amazing Spider-Man 2") as a Metallica crew member who the band sends on a special mission while it's playing.
Hetfield says a soundtrack album will also be released from the film. Fans may get a sneak preview of some portions of the film during Metallica's Orion Music + More festival, taking place June 8-9 in Detroit.
