When you think of AC/DC’s sound, the term ‘maximum overdrive’ might just be the perfect way to describe the band’s Earth-shattering hard rock/heavy metal style.
On May 24, 1986, AC/DC released Who Made Who as the soundtrack album for the horror/action film Maximum Overdrive, after being personally selected by director and writer Stephen King.
The band wrote songs specifically for the movie and remixed a few original songs, including “Hells Bells” and “You Shook Me All Night Long.”
While some believed the album to be on the lower end of AC/DC’s hits, that didn’t stop it from making charts. Who Made Who peaked at the 33rd spot on the Billboard 200 and the album-titled single hit No. 23 on the Mainstream Rock chart.
If you’ve seen the movie, then you know that the Stephen King and AC/DC were a match made in heaven, with the band’s booming rock hits helping to shape the impact of King’s action scenes.
The members of AC/DC made their acting debut as well when they were featured in the film as extras, though they never pursued further acting careers afterwards. However, the group eventually made their way back to the movie scene in 2010 with the release of the Iron Man2 soundtrack, which hit No. 4 on the Billboard 200 and topped the Top Soundtracks chart in 2012.
