On June 25, Pearl Jam’s guitarist Stone Gossard released his second solo album, Moonlander.
In an interview with Patrick Doyle from Rolling Stone, Gossard discusses the album and his reasoning for deciding to produce another album.
The LP, his first solo project in more than 10 years, (his debut being 2001’s “Bayleaf), is comprised of 11 songs that he selected out of 50 which he recorded over the course of 12 years.
While most people would consider choosing 10 songs out of 50 impossible to do, Gossard didn’t have a hard time.
“I quickly picked the 10 or 11 that I wanted to focus on,” he told Rolling Stone, describing the tracks as his “favorites from the last 10 years.”
Some of the LP’s key tracks include “Battle Cry,” which he collaborated with drummer Matt Cameron, “I Need Something Different,” a song he began in 2003 and felt compelled to finish when he heard it again, and “Beyond Measure,” which Gossard describes as “sort of a gospel song about not knowing.”
Gossard isn’t the only member from Pearl Jam to pursue a solo career. Eddie Vedder and Jeff Ament have both released solo albums and gone on tour but he isn’t sure about following in their footsteps exactly.
When the subject of touring came up, Gossard told Rolling Stone “I don’t have any plans to do any date. I think if there’s a big outcry for “Moonlander” live dates, I’ll respond.”
So if you fans are expecting a tour, you better start crying!
