Nine Inch Nails dropped an eerie new music video for their new single today, and one thing seems certain: After five years away since their last album, The Slip, the guys definitely “came back haunted.”
As was rumored when the single was released, the video was directed by the great David Lynch. According to the AV Club’s description, NIN’s new video for “Came Back Haunted” features “black-and-white spider kids, CGI lightning bolts, [and] a lot of shaky close ups of Reznor’s face and giant neck.”
The music video also comes fully equipped with a warning that reads, “This video has been identified to potentially trigger seizures for people with photosensitive epilepsy. Viewer discretion is advised.”
Of course, Lynch is best known for creating the cult hits like Mulholland Drive and television’s Twin Peaks, but has released several albums of his own, with The Big Dream set for release in mid-July.
The video marks the first collaboration between NIN frontman Trent Reznor and Lynch in sixteen years, when the two worked on the soundtrack for Lost Highway together.
NIN’s new album Hesitation Marks is due out on September 3. The record will also feature contributions from The Who bassist Pino Palladino and Fleetwood Mac icon Lindsey Buckingham.
