Chevy Metal, featuring Foo Fighters' drummer Taylor Hawkins, take the meaning of cover band to a whole new level.
Unlike most cover bands, who play some of the greatest rock hits with their own twist, Chevy Metal actually performs alongside some of the greatest musicians of all time.
On Saturday June 29, Dave Grohl, founder and lead singer of Foo Fighters, took the stage with the group at the Costa Mesa’s 60th Anniversary in Costa Mesa, CA according to CoastlinePilot.com.
The setlist included songs like “Miss You” by the Rollin Stones, “Panama” by Van Halen, “Under Pressure” by Queen, “My Sharona” by The Knack and “I Think I’m turning Japanese” by The Vapors.
During the show, Grohl told the crowd “I don’t get to play with Chevy Metal all the time. It’s the one band in the world I wish I could be in,” according to NME.
While the band had a blast with Grohl, he isn’t the only heavy hitting rock star they’ve taken the stage with.
One week before performing with Grohl, on June 22, bassist Nikki Sixx joined Chevy Metal on stage at the Malibu Inn in Malibu, CA. Together they rocked out to some of Motley Crue’s classic hits like “Looks That Kill” and “Livewire.”
After the performance, Sixx tweeted “Had a blast jamming with Taylor Hawkins and his band tonight. F—ng insane drummer and great guy.”
Chevy Metal is currently touring so this could just be the beginning of special appearances. Who knows which rock legend they’ll take the stage with next!
