Fans who have been itching from some new music from Guns N’ Roses can rest assured that the band is at least hoping to start writing soon.
Following a tour of India where he shared the stage with the Dubai band Point of View, guitarist Ron ‘Bumblefoot’ Thal spoke with Time Out Dubai about GNR’s next moves.
“Well we were supposed to start writing after the end of this last run – but I went to India! When I get back, I hope we can all get together, and live it and focus on creating new music together. Fans don’t want to hear about new shows, they want to hear about new music,” Thal explained.
Guns N’ Roses, which last released new material in 2008 with Chinese Democracy, is about as well-known for its ever-changing lineup as it is for its music, with the only original member left in the band being frontman Axl Rose.
Regarding those who refuse to listen to new music from GNR as they long for the days of Slash, Duff McKagan and Steven Adler, Thal says that was just one chapter of story that’s still being written, likening it to Star Wars.
“There were six Star Wars movies. If you only watch up to The Empire Strikes Back, that’s fine, but you’re kind of missing the rest of the story,” he tells Time Out Dubai. “And there’s probably some good things in there that you can get out of it. But it’s your choice; it’s there for whoever wants it. If not, that’s fine. There’s enough of everything in the world to please everybody.”
While fans who do want a new album from GNR exercise their “Patience,” the band is set to play a handful of dates in Canada, beginning with an appearance at the Festival D’ete de Quebec in Quebec City on July 12.
