Hinder is being a bit cagey about why frontman Austin Winkler has decided to drop out of the group's current tour.
In a statement on its official website, the Oklahoma group writes that "Austin has decided to temporarily leave the tour for personal reasons. Our thoughts and prayers are with him in this time and we know he will be just fine. However, the band has decided, instead of canceling shows and leaving our die-hard fans hanging, we're going to keep the good times rolling on the road this summer. We have some guests filling in to help us out and promise you won't be disappointed!"
Winkler's stand-ins include Saving Abel's Jared Weeks and Marshal Dutton from Drankmore, who also co-produced Hinder's latest album, "Welcome to the Freakshow," with drummer Cody Hanson.
Winkler has acknowledged he was on "a really, really dark drug binge" when he started to write the songs for the album, but Hanson tells us that fans shouldn't necessarily jump to the conclusion that Winkler is the band's only tortured soul:
"The thing is, everybody goes through dark shit in their lives. That's why we titled the album 'Welcome to the Freakshow;' everybody has that shit going on in their life. Some people are just more vocal about it., or it's more apparent from some people, maybe. It's good to write songs and just get that shit out. Everybody has that dark stuff."
Hinder performs tonight (July 11) in West Fargo, N.D., and currently has dates booked through August 26. There's no word on when Winkler might return to the lineup.
