Alice Cooper is planning to resurrect the Hollywood Vampires.
That's not a long-lost band; it's the name that was stuck to Cooper and his California partying buddies -- including Beatles John Lennon and Ringo Starr, Harry Nilsson, the Who's Keith Moon and a variety of others who spent many a well-publicized night cavorting drunkenly through Tinsel Town bars and clubs.
Cooper tells us he's "three-quarters of the way through" a covers album that will pay tribute to his old crowd and also to kindred spirits such as Jimi Hendrix and the Doors' Jim Morrison.
Cooper isn't revealing song titles yet, but in his current concerts he and his band are performing a medley that includes the Doors' "Break On Through (to the Other Side)," the Beatles' "Revolution," the Jimi Hendrix Experience's "Foxy Lady" and the Who's "My Generation."
"We're really happy, all of us, everyone involved in the covers because it's pretty much what we wanted to do," Cooper says. "We specified a certain time period and said, 'Let's stay within that. Let's not move it around too much.' We don't want to be doing cover songs from the 80s and 90s when the Hollywood Vampires kind of thing was more '73, '74, '75."
"We have September off, so we'll probably take that time and just finish it," Cooper continues. "I think we could finish the whole thing in September and it'll be out, I would say, by early spring."
The album will be Cooper's follow-up to the 2012 set "Welcome 2 My Nightmare."
