This week has brought both good news and bad news for fans on Soundgarden.
During a recent interview with a Seattle radio station, guitarist Kim Thayil revealed that the grunge rock group will probably be taking a breather from touring when their European concert dates wrap up in September, stating that drummer “Matt [Cameron]’s going to be touring with Pearl Jam” and that he thinks frontman Chris Cornell “is going to be working on a solo acoustic record” and playing some live dates of his own.
Making sure that fans still get their fill of Soundgarden, Thayil also revealed that during the band’s break, he’ll be working on putting together a compilation set of Soundgarden tracks, many of which haven’t been heard in wide range.
“…I will be working on compiling the Soundgarden B-sides box, which we have a lot of songs that were released on European and Australian releases, movie soundtracks, various things like that that have yet to be compiled and put into album form,” Thayil explained to the Seattle station.
The boys from Soundgarden have had quite the year, having released King Animal last November (the band’s first new album since 1996) and following it with an extensive North American tour. The group also made their debut on the PBS series Live from the Artist’s Den last week and bassist Ben Shepherd announced his first ever solo album, In Deep Owl, will be released on August 27.
If you’re still determined to see Soundgarden on tour in 2013, the band’s European shows are set to kick off on September 4 in Helsinki, Finland and run through September 19 in London, England.
