Slipknot has nothing else going on this year except an October 19 performance at the Monsters of Rock festival in Brazil. But plenty is going on behind the scenes, according to frontman Corey Taylor.
In fact, Taylor tells us that the group is moving full speed ahead on its next album, which will be Slipknot's first since 2008's "All Hope is Gone" and its first without bassist Paul Gray, who died in 2010:
"Really the only thing we've talked about is the beginning of next year getting together and seeing where each other are at musically, throwing some ideas at each other, seeing what we can kind of get going. But we really don't have a timetable; we've basically told everybody, 'Screw you. Don't give us a deadline because this is, this album especially is too important.' I mean, it's gonna be a daunting task going into the studio without Paul Gray, anyway. I don't need a bunch of suits rushing me through something that is going to be pretty emotional."
Until that time, Taylor will be busy promoting his second book, the just-published "A Funny Thing Happened On the Way to Heaven (Or, How I Made Peace with the Paranormal and Stigmatized Zealots and Cynics in the Process)."
Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison, meanwhile, has announced an October 1 release date for the self-titled debut album from his new band, Scar The Martyr, which hits the road with Danzig on August 13, while Shawn "Clown" Crahan is directing his first feature film, "Officer Downe."
