After a great deal of demand from fans, Rush has released a remixed version of their 2002 album, Vapor Trails.
Requests for a new version of the LP started when the tracks “One Little Victory” and “Earthshine” were reissued for the band’s 2009 compilation Retrospective III, potentially reminding Rush and its followers how much they longed for a do-over when it came to the album’s sound.
“We overcooked it. The mixes were really loud and brash. The mastering job was harsh and distorted,” Geddy Lee explained to Rolling Stone, calling the album’s imperfections a constant “bee in [his] bonnet” since its release.
Dubbed Vapor Trails Remixed, the album has been reworked by producer David Bottrill, who, according to Lee, truly comprehended what Rush was initially trying to accomplish with the record's sound eleven years ago.
“He understood what it should sound like so I'm very pleased with the end result,” the singer/bassist told Rolling Stone. “I think he's finally brought some completion and some justice to some of those songs we'd put so much of our heart and soul into.”
Vapor Trails Remixed will be available on October 1 via Atlantic Records in three formats: CD, double LP and digital download.
Also due out on October 1 is a seven-disc box set that will feature all of Rush’s releases from 1989-2007, including Presto (1989), Roll the Bones (1991), Counterparts (1993), and Test For Echo (1996), Vapor Trails (2002) plus the 2013 remix, as well as the band's covers EP Feedback (2004) and the Billboard Top 5 album Snakes & Arrows (2007).
