KISS bassist Gene Simmons has never been one to hold back on his opinions; a trait the rocker recently proved once again during an interview with TeamRock Radio.
While speaking about Rock and Roll icons from decades passed, Simmons cited acts such as Elvis Presley, The Who, The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, and of course, KISS.
Looking into today's music industry, Simmons predicted, "There won't be another Beatles or another Prince or another KISS because there isn't a support system…There are no record companies because kids have decided they can download and file share and bypass paying the artists what they rightfully should be getting."
Besides the business-aspects of the industry, the KISS rocker also says that artists just aren't as iconic as they once were.
After posing the challenge to name one band or artist that's been "bigger than their music" since 1984, Simmons gave a few examples of his own, before discounting their possible superstar status.
"Kurt Cobain…no, that's one or two records. That's not enough. Amy Winehouse…that's one or two records. That's not enough," Simmons says. "What? Because you died that makes you an icon? No, no. There aren't any."
What do you think? Is Gene Simmons right in saying there haven't been any superstar artists in the past thirty years?
