The latest salvo in the battle over Metallica's upcoming Glastonbury Festival appearance in the U.K. is a peace offering -- of sports. The group behind the creation of the Facebook page Remove Metallica from Glastonbury Festival for their support of Bear Hunting, is offering the group a chance to "make a statement against big-game hunting" in order to quell some of the criticism that's emerged from frontman James Hetfield hosting the History Channel program "The Hunt." Protesters feel that supporting Kodiak bear hunting "is incompatible with Glastonbury Festivals ideals." The page has so far logged more than 23,000 likes since it was established earlier this week. One of the organizers tells Britain's New Musical Express that, "For a great many people the very idea that it is OK to hunt is abhorrent. To even raise the question is ridiculous. We share this planet with other living beings. It is our duty to protect them from their greatest threat -- ourselves....With fame comes responsibility, and much as I applaud the work that James and the other members of the band has done in other causes, this does not let them off the hook in this case." Metallica, which is slated to perform on June 28 at Glastonbury, has not responded to the protesters' invitation. The group is playing several European festivals as well as the Heavy Montreal festival on August 9.
